Meditation in Kakano 3

Today we had a very special visitor - Sister Rachel. Sister Rachel is a Sister of Compassion and she lives in Wellington. She is at St Marys this week to teach us about meditation. We had our first session today. First, Sister Rachel told us the 4 S's = silence, stillness, straight back, say Maranatha. We sat with our backs straight, our hands open and our eyes closed. We said Maranatha in our heads - we breathe in for Ma-ra and out when we say na-tha.  Maranatha means 'Come Lord Jesus'. We meditated for 5 minutes. We were fabulous (for the first 3 minutes) and Mrs T, Whaea Glenda and Sister Rachel were impressed. We are practicing our meditation with Sister Rachel again tomorrow and Thursday.

(The fact we have a few photos might tell you that Mrs T is one of the K3 people that needs to practice being still for 5 minutes. Parent Challenge - can you sit still for 5 minutes?)

Week 9 Term 2 2021

 How did we get to Week 9 so fast?!  On Friday last week we took our team to the Parish mass.  We cannot tell you how proud we were of our kids. They were polite, they joined in, they talked to Father and answered questions, …They were an absolute credit to St Marys AND to their whanau.  A big thanks for the delicious morning tea and an extra thanks to the wonderful Mums who helped out and braved morning tea with us. There is quite a bit happening in the last couple weeks of term - keep an eye on the school newsletter and thanks for checking the blog.

School Photos

Photos are being taken on Monday. Kakano 1, 2, 3 are booked quite early in the day.  Please, wear the correct school uniform -  this includes simple red/blue colours for hair ties etc. For more info check the school newsletter. Thanks heaps.

Digital Wellbeing for Parents

Our Year 3-6 classes have been participating in a programme called ‘Te Iwi Matihiko’. This programme educates children on how to care for their own wellbeing online and the positives and negatives of engaging in digital spaces. On Tuesday we will be hosting a parents session - this session is open to ALL parents.

Teacher Only Day

A reminder that we have a Teacher Only Day on the last day of term. If you need child care for your child/ren, you can contact Mary-Ann Roling from Glenholme Afterschool on 347 0709 or 0211 215599. Mary-Anne will be caring for students at St Mary’s.

Our Learning

Literacy = sounds in sequence.

We are looking at how we use sounds, small words and bits of words that we know to make our reading and spelling easier.

Numeracy = reading the problem

We are reading word problems to look for clues about how to solve. You can talk to your children about words that could mean add (join, more…) or subtract (take away, minus, disappear…).

Religious Education = Sacrament

We are learning about the Sacrament of Baptism. Baptism is how we are welcomed into God’s family. How does your family make others feel welcome?

Matariki Dinner

The hard copy of this note went home today - you might need to search the depths of the book bag to find it.

Week 8 Term 2

This weekend has seen some great ‘read a book’ weather and it looks like we have a bit more rain to come. It might be a good idea to pack a raincoat and, if your child is a puddle jumper (and who isn’t?), a spare pair of dry socks.  The term isn’t over yet and we want to stay happy and healthy. There are some nasty bugs floating around the community and there have been a couple of instances of chicken pox and a few cases of head lice. It’s probably a good reminder to take care of ourselves and keep a close eye on our busy, but tired, little learners.

Matariki Dinner

Our Matariki Dinner is scheduled for Thursday June 24th in our school hall at 5.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come and share food from your country if you would like. Otherwise just bring a plate of food. We have been having these dinners now for five years and they are always lots of fun and well supported.

Thank You

Help - please, vote.

 We are a finalist in the Education Category of the Access Alliance National Awards. Voting closes at midnight on Sunday 13 June.

Please can you vote for us. The link to go to is here. It all looks quite daunting when you go to the link - all we need you to do though is just vote for us - see the Education Category.

Anyone who has their own email address can vote - if you have a Y3-6 child at school remember to ask them to vote for us too.

It would be wonderful if you have friends and family who might be willing to vote for us too.

Thanks for your support.

Week 7 Term 2 2021

 End of term tiredness is beginning to make an appearance with our beautiful children. Eating healthy food, drinking plenty of water and getting lots of sleep will help them get through the next few weeks until the holidays. They had an amazing time on Friday afternoon with the imagination playground, balls and the sandpit. Check out Educa for all the photos if you haven’t already.
