Week 11 Term 1 2021

 Week 11

The holidays are just about upon us and we are all ready for a nice long break to recharge our batteries. Please help your child have a good week by ensuring they are going to bed on time, drinking plenty of water and have plenty of healthy food to keep them fueled for learning.

Thank you for all of your support this term. I am feeling very lucky to have such a great bunch of kids to work with and such lovely whanau support is the icing on the cake.

School Shoes

These have an annoying tendency to break, or get lost, right before the end of term. If this should happen, children are allowed to wear their school winter shoes and socks.

This week is a very quiet week - which is a lovely way to wind down for the end of the term. Here’s what’s on:

Wednesday:

Thursday:

No assembly - senior art exhibition set up in hall

ANZAC Day - a message from Mr Macmillan

During the holidays we celebrate ANZAC Day (Sunday 25th April). I am hoping to have a strong representation from our school attending the parade. If your child would like to join us and walk in the parade and participate in the Civic Ceremony at  the Bay Trust Forum, Energy Events Centre, Queens Drive please make sure they are at the Lakefront Memorial (intersection of Fenton St and Whakaue Streets)  by 8.30am in their winter school uniform. Jersey, not fleece top. The ceremony concludes at the Energy Events Centre and should be over by 11.00am. Parents are also invited to be part of the parade and service. Children just might want to be part of the parade. If you have a poppy your child can wear, please pin it on them. I will have some spare ones to give to children at the parade.  This is a very special ceremony so I do encourage our children to be part of this. ALL STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.

TERM 2

  • Starts on Monday 3rd May at 8:45am

  • Full winter uniform is expected for all students - uniforms can be purchased from our uniform shop (open Mon/Fri 8:30am and Wed 2:30pm) or through the school app

  • Hats are optional this term

  • Book bags (with reading books and poem/homework book) need to be brought to school EVERY DAY.

Easter Egg Hunt

On Thursday, Kakano 123 had an Easter egg hunt for Golden Time. Miss Ryan shared a story, with us all, while Mrs D and Mrs T snuck away. When they came back they told us that there were 72 little plastic eggs hidden in the playground. We had to search for the eggs and bring them back to the cobbles. The eggs had numbers written on them and we couldn't take any eggs until all 72 were found. We carefully put the eggs on the egg number line to make sure that we had found them all (our teachers are very sneaky at making us do maths for fun).  We worked really well as a team and we managed to find all 72 just before the 3pm bell - Phew!

P.S. we'll be doing a bit more number ordering over the next couple of weeks.
Knowing number order and numbers before, after and between helps us with our
counting strategies when we solve problems.

week 10 Term 1 2021

 Week 10

We hope you all had a relaxing and safe Easter break. It’s been fantastic to have the longer weekend to recharge our batteries. Remember to bring your swimming gear each day this week. This is our last week of swimming until term 4.

Now is a good time to dig out winter uniforms to see what fits and how much your children have grown. Our uniform shop is open at school Monday and Friday mornings (8:30-9:00) and on Wednesday afternoons (2:30-3:00), or you can make a purchase through the school app and your purchase will be delivered to your child’s classroom.

Our learning focus this week:

In Literacy we are using our phonics to figure out unfamiliar words in reading and writing.

In Maths we are learning to add and subtract numbers using a range of counting strategies.

In Religious Education our focus is on Jesus’ resurrection.
